Search Engine Optimisation
What is Search Engine Optimisation?
In order for a website to be found on a search engine such as Google, the search engine needs to be aware of the sites existence and it needs some key information about the site, in the form of META data, before it can view it and rank it. META data is the data contained in the header that offers information about the web page that a visitor is currently on. The information contained in the META data isn’t viewable on the web page (except in the source code). META data is contained within META tags. Anyone can submit a site URL to Google but unless the site contains the META Tags which conform to web standards then it will not be ranked highly, if it is ranked at all.
We include the basic search engine optimisation free of charge with all of our websites. Our basic search engine optimisation includes:
- The use of META Tags in the header that contain relevant keywords and descriptions in a format that conforms to web standards.
- The pages of the site all contain a unique title.
- We optimise all of the images used on the site and include ALT text which assists with search engine optimisation as well as accessibility.
- We also include a robots.txt file that assists the search engines robots in finding the site and knowing which parts to look at.
- When the site has been published we then register it with all of the major search engines - Google, AOL, MSN etc. and a number of popular web directories such as Yahoo
- As an added extra we always include a favicon. Favicons are tiny customised icons that are displayed in the web address bar in most browsers next to the web address. If a user bookmarks the website it will be displayed as a unique identifier next to that website link.
We can also offer a premium search engine optimisation service, which includes advanced link building and competitor analysis, for any clients that need a more targeted marketing campaign.
