Content Management Systems
Have you considered how you are going to keep your new website up to date once it goes live?
Most websites will require ongoing changes. These could be very small, such as changing a phone number, or changing a paragraph. New products or pages will necessitate larger updates to the site. Chances are, though, you will still be happy with the design, and it’s just the text that needs to be changed.
Of course we can make any changes for you but once the site is live any changes will incur a fee and if you plan to make regular changes to the site then this may not be the most economical solution.
This is where a content management system (CMS) comes in.
What is a CMS?
A content management system is a software package specifically designed to manage a website. It provides a simple, non-technical way of updating the content i.e the text and any images.
What are the benefits?
- Ability to easily add/edit web content
- Allows for frequent updates
- You can make changes to the website whenever you want
- Users do not need to be able to write code
- Multiple staff can keep the site up to date
- Access can be restricted so that each person can only update the sections of the site they are responsible for
- Ensures that all the pages are consistent in design
Is a CMS for me?
If you intend to update your site on a regular basis and particularly if you are a business then having a CMS included as part of the web development will undoubtedly save you money in the long run and will enable you to keep the site content up to date and relevant.
However, as with any system you will need to learn how to use it and once you have been given access to manage the site content yourself you will be responsible for any changes made to the site.
If you decide that a CMS is for you then we can provide you with further details and a customised quotation. The CMS can be installed and integrated into your chosen design as the website is being built and when the site is finished you will be given a login and password and an instruction manual that allows you to access the CMS backend and make changes to the content of the site yourself.
For an additional fee we can arrange for training in the use of your Content Management System.
If a CMS sounds like too much for you, or if you're too busy running your business to make updates yourself, then a managed maintenance contract may be more suited to your needs.
